Though the Olympic Games had been being held from the very early time, yet the modern Olympic Games were founded in 1894 by Pierre De Coubertin when he thought to promote human spirits and international understanding through sporting competition.

The Games of the Olympiad commonly known as the Summer Olympic Games was first held by the International Committee in 18 96 in Athens. It was a big international multi-sport event to develop human spirit even across the boundaries, and afterward, it has been being repeatedly organized and celebrated every four years. From the 1904, the tradition of awarding Gold, Silver and Bronze medal to winners was started. After the success of Summer Olympic Games, the Winter Olympic Games were also started.

History and mission of Special Olympics World Summer Games

Special Olympics World Summer Games were founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968.It was started with a few volunteers and limited events and sports. Now as an International organization, Special Olympics manage to hold Special Olympics World Summer Games to encourage intellectually disabled people. The games enhance the spirit of sports with the encouragement of the sports persons with intellectual disability. The games do not only become a source of the entertainment for the enthusiastic, but also empower the sports persons with the human spirit which is the global mission of the Special Olympics.

It is hoped that the games will attract more than 30,000 participants from across the world to show their talents, achievements and perseverance. People including volunteers, coaches and spectators will enjoy and encourage them.
